Define Maps - Year 2

Well I thought I would be the first to share... I did these define maps a few weeks ago with my Year 2 class. I didn't find the children's definitions very encouraging and wasn't sure how to improve on that so it was great to be able to ask today at the lead teacher day about how to move the children on. The advice I was given is to persevere and highlight any examplar definitions that the children come up with. Also I could come up with a definition with the class to model how to go about it. Of course all this makes sense and I am looking forward to trying the activity again and also using the other maps that were explained to us today.
NB. If you click on the image it will come up bigger and be easier to read!

Great start Marnie ... will be interested to see what your students wrote or talked about as a result of the define map thinking when we visit Meadowbank for the F2F sessions this term.

Well done Marnie. After our conversation I today I will be very interested to see where your students now go. Their journey and ours over the rest of the year is going to be really exciting! Keep up the innovation and energy.

Thank you for this perfect example of how the map can be used effectively in the classroom. I showed it to our Junior School teachers as a motivation to get them to try it.Here's hoping...
