Defining Culture - Year 2 - Meadowbank

Recently I had the pleasure of briefly visiting a school that had been using SOLO with their junior children. I picked up a great idea - to get the children to draw their thinking before they wrote/spoke about it. I tried this with my class for our end of term final assessment. We have been working all term on the topic of 'Culture'. We have studied a range of cultures - defined them, compared and contrasted them and also looked at their parts and the functions of the parts. As hoped, some of the children have used this 'relational' experience to help shape their definitions.

You can see our pictures and definitions in the movie below. Next step is to get the children to self assess, although I may have run out of time for that this term,!
